Free Motion Circuit Training

FreeMotion Circuit training is a high intensity workout that includes both cardiovascular and resistance training to encourage weight loss that stays lost. This program is a blend of cardio and strength training for a heart-pumping, fat-burning workout. Classes can accommodate 8-10 participants; 2 days a week for a 1 hour session. New classes being on the 1st Tuesday of each month, see fitness staff for details.

Triathlon Training

30 Day Fitness Challenge

The 30 day fitness challenge is for you if you have a moderate level of fitness, strong level of commitment and 20lbs or less to lose. Director of Health Coaching/Senior Consultant

Richard has a history of success and he can help you find success too. Upon completion of an All-American High School career, Richard traveled the globe as a Nike Pro Track and Field athlete. He claimed 7 USA National Track & Field Championships and in 2003, 2005 and 2007 he enjoyed the status of a World Champion Track and Field Qualifier. Olympic Trials Finalist was added to his list of accomplishments in 2004. Now as a Director of Health Coaching for Health & Sport Works and a senior consultant. He’s carried his love of health and fitness into a career of helping others obtain their goals. He is a Certified Personal Trainer, a Corrective Exercise Specialist and is a USA Track & Field coach. No matter your current fitness level or age Richard is ready to help you on your journey to better health. If you’re running your first 5k, tackling a big-hairy-weight-loss goal, or want to reduce stress and increase your energy, you can be sure Richard brings the right skills to the table.


cassiCassi Anderson

Cassi was raised in a military family and moved around a lot as a child. After spending over 11 years in Kansas she decided it was time for a change. She came to the Charlotte area in 2008 and has found a place to call home.

Cassi has always had an interest in health and fitness, but she didn’t discover it was her passion until she became a parent. Her main goal in life is to be a good example for her daughter, so in 2009 she headed back to school. She graduated from UNC Charlotte in May of 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. She also obtained her Personal Training Certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and her Health Fitness Specialist certification through the American College of Sports Medicine.

Cassi has shared her passion for health and fitness with her daughter, Ryanne, and has taught her the importance of eating healthy and staying active. She hopes to share this passion and knowledge with the members of HFFA and teach them to be good examples for their children, other family members, and friends.

derekDerek Gibson

Derek took the road less traveled into the fitness industry starting out as a music/piano and voice teacher after his time in the U.S Navy. After teaching he made the switch into health and wellness industry. He got his start at a hospital based facility in Pinehurst near his hometown of Southern Pines N.C. where he worked in cardiac rehab, outpatient rehab and the on site testing lab where stress tests and other fitness testing was administered. He moved to the Charlotte area in 2001 where he worked in Birkdale as a trainer before becoming the head trainer there. Derek came to us in 2009 where he has worked in fitness as a trainer, manager and jack of all trades. He has 14 years of experience in the fitness industry working with all types of clients from basic functional training to rehab/sports specific and most things in between. Derek spends a fair amount of time working but if you listen closely you’ll hear his passion for music shining through with his singing even during training sessions! One of the things that sets him  apart is his willingness to help and his desire to educate people about exercise. One of his favorite things to say is “the difference between people getting results and not getting results is education”. He’ll be more than happy to give you the education necessary to help you reach positive results!

KathyKathy Goody


Athletics and fitness have always been a large part of Kathy Goody’s life. As the youngest in an athletic all girl family of five she learned about competition early. At age 16 she started working in aquatics as an instructor and has been involved ever since. Kathy works hard to provide a unique, inspired method of training using sound fundamental principles for an exciting and fun experience. She knows ultimately if clients are not enjoying what they do they will not stick with it.

Kathy, as a younger athlete enjoyed basketball, softball and field hockey. In college, she took up rowing. After graduating with a BA from UNH, Kathy moved to Boston to further her rowing career and train for the lightweight national rowing team. She gained valuable experience training as a high level athlete and competed all over the world. Upon retiring from rowing she tried many sports, including mountain bike racing, swimming, road cycling and even adventure racing.

Kathy began competing in triathlon in 2000 and is now very active in the tri community. Kathy started up Team Triumph, an all women’s triathlon team of greater Charlotte and runs the triathlon training program at HFFA. Kathy organizes many clinics and triathlon events and is a member of the Cool Breeze race team. Kathy helped start up the HFFA Kid’s Triathlon series sponsored by Hawthorne Pizza and runs triathlon camps for kids all summer. In 2014 Kathy started the Triathlon Academy of the Carolinas for adults and youth to train and reach their goals in the sport of triathlon.

When she is not training others Kathy can be found adventuring with her four children.

JennJennifer Magnuson


As an athlete and a professional dedicated to wellness, Jennifer has spent over 15 years in the fitness industry as a personal trainer, an educator, a coach, and a group exercise instructor in cities such as Los Angeles and San Diego.

In college, Jennifer competed as a Division I athlete in Track and Field and Cross Country. Her undergraduate work focused primarily on cardiovascular and strength rehabilitation.

Jennifer’s experiences range from owning multiple fitness training businesses to educating trainers. She has worked with a variety of clientele including high-performance athletes. Her specialty is lifestyle and weight management with an emphasis on injury prevention.

For fun, Jennifer enjoys training with her husband and competing in local races, including triathlons and keeping up with her two boys. She also enjoys using her gifts to mentor other women in her industry.
